Post-Deployment Assurance

Does this system hold in real conditions?

Post-Deployment Assurance: six-dimension check on whether a deployed AI system holds. Usage, stability, exceptions, output quality, control integrity, governance. Version 0, 2026.

What holding means for a deployed AI system

Deployment is not the end of the engagement. An AI system faces operational reality only after it ships: uneven usage patterns, edge cases the validation set did not cover, drift in input distribution, control degradation, documentation decay. Post-Deployment Assurance assesses whether the system still does what it was signed off to do, and whether the controls installed at deployment still function.

The six post-deployment dimensions

Each dimension is rated 1 to 5 against the baseline set at deployment.

01

Usage reality

Actual adoption compared to intended adoption: who uses the system, how often, for what tasks.

Key checks

  • Active users measured against intended population
  • Task types compared to use case scope
  • Unexpected usage patterns identified and assessed
  • Shadow usage (off-label tasks) detected and triaged
02

Stability

Uptime, error rates, latency profile, and input or output drift over time.

Key checks

  • Uptime meets agreed SLA
  • Error rate stable within tolerance band
  • Latency distribution monitored for degradation
  • Input distribution drift detected against deployment baseline
03

Exception & override

How edge cases are caught, how human overrides are used, whether both are logged and learned from.

Key checks

  • Exceptions caught before propagating to user
  • Human override frequency and reason tracked
  • Override patterns reviewed for model improvement signals
  • Exception retrospectives feed back into validation set
04

Output quality

Whether output quality remains within specification over time, with continuous monitoring in place.

Key checks

  • Quality metrics defined per output type
  • Sampling-based quality review in place
  • Automated quality gates on critical paths
  • User-reported quality issues tracked to resolution
05

Control integrity

Whether the controls installed at deployment still function, and whether documentation matches current system state.

Key checks

  • Deployed controls re-tested at defined cadence
  • Documentation reviewed within the last quarter
  • Drift between documented and actual system behavior flagged
  • Configuration changes logged against control impact
06

Governance continuity

Whether ownership persists, review cadence is respected, and incidents produce operational learning.

Key checks

  • System owner still named and empowered
  • Review cadence respected (quarterly minimum recommended)
  • Incident post-mortems produce documented changes
  • Decision authority intact for material changes

Auto-downgrade rules

Three conditions trigger automatic 'Not holding' classification, regardless of composite score.

No active monitoring of output quality

Not holding

A system without quality monitoring is operating blind.

System owner unnamed or unavailable

Not holding

An orphan system has no governance.

Documentation over 6 months out of date

Not holding

Outdated documentation breaks incident response and audit.

What you receive

Post-Deployment Assurance produces five deliverables, suitable as a one-off review or as a quarterly retainer cadence.

  • 01

    Per-dimension scores against deployment baseline

  • 02

Drift indicators (usage, stability, quality, controls)

  • 03

    Control integrity findings with severity

  • 04

Continue / remediate / retire recommendation

  • 05

    Next review cadence proposal

Typical duration

One to two weeks for a one-off review. Quarterly cadence recommended for systems in production longer than six months. Annual for stable systems under active governance.

Scope of this method

Post-Deployment Assurance produces a private operational review. It is not a certification of continued conformity, not a substitute for regulator-required periodic review, and not a SOC 2 Type II audit. It is the TRARDI discipline for verifying that a system still holds, at a cadence the client chooses.
